Bitlocker "Invalid system disk" with LaCie USB key
I set up Windows-7 Ultimate on an ASUS N81V. This system does not have TPM and I configured bitlocker to use a USB key. When I use a 4GB LaCie iamakey USB, I get the error message "Invalid system disk." When I insert a Sony recovery USB, Bitlocker boots the system just fine. I've deleted the files and restored them several times, but always the same result. I would like to use this USB since it fits on my keyring. LaCie works fine once the system is up and reads and writes fine; it just doesn't work with Bitlocker. What do I need to do to make LaCie work with Bitlocker?

Hi, I would like to suggest: 1. Ensure that the USB flash drive is formatted by using the NTFS, FAT, or FAT32 file system. 2. Make sure that the USB device is connected to one of the computer's USB ports. For example, do not connect the USB device to an external USB hub. 3. Store the BitLocker key on a different USB device. The original USB device may not be compatible with BitLocker. 4. Disconnect other USB devices from the computer. The computer's BIOS may not able to read the data on the USB device if other USB devices are present. Because the order in which the BIOS detects USB devices may affect BitLocker. 5. Contact the manufacturer of your computer or your motherboard to make sure that the computer's BIOS can read data from a USB device when the computer starts. You may be able to update the computer's BIOS to a newer version that supports BitLocker. 6. USB Devices that are used to start Windows PE or other operating systems may not work with BitLocker. Reformat the USB device so that it is not used as a startup device. 1. The drive is formated FAT32. 2. I plug it directly in the USB port, no hub involved. 3. As the original post says, another device works. The question is how to make LaCie work with Bitlocker. 4. No other USB devices are connected. 5. Bios can read USB. 6. The USB is not a startup device. It is brand new. This is Windows-7 Ultimate.

Please contact LaCie for support. Your USB drive may not support BitLocker. I am returning the LaCie USB key to the store since LaCie requires a $15 fee to talk to them about the problem with their defective $20 product. All other USB sticks I've tried work fine with BitLocker.
